What Is Hemorrhoids (Piles)? Unlike the veins in the other parts of the body, the veins that lie in the rectum and around the anal region do not have these one-way valves that prevent the back flow of blood. Hemorrhoids (piles) are the disorder that occurs when the veins that lie in the rectal regions and in and around the anus become swollen (enlarged)- in most cases- due to an increased pressure or straining during bowel movements. However, excessive straining during bowel movement may rupture the varicose veins, thus giving rise to serious bleeding and the passage of dark blood when stooling. Due to the numerous nerve endings found in and around the anal regions, straining during bowel movements may irritate or cause the piles to become inflamed and this usually results in a burning and excruciating pain which makes sitting down or walking extremely difficult. A fourth degree hemorrhoid is that which protrudes outsides the anus even when there is no bowel movements. Causes of Hemorrhoids (Piles) ?There are several factors that can cause hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are directly caused by any condition that is capable of creating an undue or excessive pressure or obstruction, temporarily or constantly on the veins (or venous system) situated in the lower part of the bowels and in rectal regions, e.g: ix)?Prolonged standing or sitting down can put excessive pressure on the rectal veins or stagnates the blood in the veins and thus promotes hemorrhoids. xi)?Overeating puts a great deal of pressure on the veins and thus promotes hemorrhoids.
